the John B. Cowle ended her career in July 1909 in a collision with the famous Issac M. Scott. thick fog on Whitefish Bay is still a common occurrence today, and in an era without radar it was especially dangerous. the Scott was on her maiden voyage when she rammed the Cowle and was later lost in the great storm of 1913 on Lake Huron. the Issac M. Scott has never been found.
